Situated Mapping for Transfer Learning

چکیده
In transferring a task model learned in a source environment to a new, target environment, the agent may encounter novel objects. Thus, analogical mapping between objects in the source and target environments is both important and complex. Two objects that share the same purpose in one task may be mapped to different objects in the context of another task. We address this contextdependent object mapping by leveraging a human teacher. The teacher provides a limited number of object correspondences from the ground-truth object mapping, from which the remainder of the object mapping can be predicted. We evaluate this Mapping by Demonstration approach both in simulation and on two physical task examples (sorting and assembly). Our results show the agent can use human guidance to quickly infer a correct object mapping, requiring assistance with only the first 1/14 and 5/12 steps of the sorting and assembly tasks, respectively.

Formulation of Language Teachers̕ Identity in the Situated Learning of Language Teaching Community of Practice
A community of practice may shape and reshape the identity of members of the community through providing them with situated learning or learning environment. This study, therefore, is to clarify the salient learning-based features of the language teaching community of practice that might formulate the identity of language teachers. To this end, the study examined how learning situations in two ...

متن کاملSituated Learning and Galperin’s Notion of Object-Oriented Activity
Situated learning theories are largely based on the idea that the knower cannot be separated from the known, i.e. the individual, its context, and its activity in the environment mutually constitute each other. This way of attending the issues of cognition and learning has been heavily criticised by many researchers since sociocultural aspects such as social interaction and tool use are not bel...
متن کاملThe Effect of Context on Training: Is Learning Situated?*
This paper addresses issues associated with transfer of training; in particular, the importance of mimicking the contexts of application during training: When will a skill transfer from one situation of application to another, and what aspects of training affect a learner's ability to transfer the learning to new situations? Although there exist many examples of failure to show good transfer of...
متن کاملWhy Verbs are Harder to Learn than Nouns: Initial Insights from a Computational Model of Intention Recognition in Situated Word Learning
We present a computational model that uses intention recognition as a basis for situated word learning. In an initial experiment, the model acquired a lexicon from situated natural language collected from human participants interacting in a virtual game environment. Similar to child language learning, the model learns nouns faster than verbs. In the model, this is due to inherent ambiguities in...
